Wolfson Fellows celebrated at Oxford University Student Union Teaching Awards

Dr Marc Ventresca won the Social Sciences award for Innovation in Teaching, while Professor Elleke Boehmer and Dr Lucie Cluver were shortlisted for the Innovation in Teaching awards in the Humanities and Social Sciences Divisions respectively.

Dr Ventresca, who is an economic sociologist in the Strategy, Innovation and Marketing Faculty at the Saïd Business School, was “delighted and surprised” by his award. He says that he teaches “from a spirit grounded in my own research and in social sciences insights about how people work together to innovate, to imagine opportunity, and to get things done. Wolfson College, and Oxford broadly, embody this special context where people can learn across disciplinary and project boundaries. My work with Science Innovation Plus demonstrates the power for innovation of combining expertise from the sciences of invention with implementation tools and action strategies.”

The OUSU Teaching Awards were set up in 2012, and encourage students to nominate lecturers and tutors who they feel have been exceptionally inspirational or innovative over the last academic year. Dr Ventresca considers “teaching to be central in a research university’ The recognition of a teaching award reconfirms that coupling of teaching, research and engagement/impact in a much appreciated way.”

The awards ceremony, hosted by the OUSU President and the Vice-Chancellor of the University, took place last week at Rhodes House and all students who nominated a shortlisted lecturer were invited to attend.
