Fundraising Priorities

Since its foundation, Wolfson has flourished thanks to the generosity of its alumni and friends. We are hugely grateful for your support.

Gifts allow Wolfson to offer scholarships to reduce the cost of studying in Oxford, travel awards to facilitate students’ research, bursaries for students who encounter unexpected financial hardship, and much more.

Our most important current priorities are listed below.

The Wolfson 1966 Fund

By giving to the Wolfson 1966 Fund, you will directly support Wolfson’s students and early career researchers. Your donations allow Wolfson to offer scholarships to reduce the cost of studying in Oxford, travel awards to facilitate students’ research, bursaries for students in unexpected financial distress, and for support for Wolfson’s nursery and family provision, which is such a special part of College life. In today’s environment, students need all the help they can get.

All gifts to the Wolfson 1966 Fund have an impact on our students. Please give to the Wolfson 1966 Fund by making a single or recurring gift here.

Supporting Black British Postgraduate Students

In partnership with the university, Wolfson is seeking to raise funds for scholarships for Black British postgraduate students. We recognise that Black British students of African and Caribbean heritage are under-represented at Oxford, making up just 1.9% of UK graduate students at the university. We want to redress this imbalance through dedicated scholarship support.

Ancient World Research Cluster

Among Oxford’s colleges, Wolfson has no match in its expertise on the Ancient World. Thirteen Governing Body Fellows, several dozen emeritus, supernumerary, and research fellows, and more than 35 students work on a diverse range of topics covering most of the ancient world from Gibraltar to Japan and from the beginnings of civilization to the middle ages. Gifts to the AWRC support their research, fieldwork, and scholarships. To support the Ancient World Research Cluster, click here.

Oxford Centre for Life Writing

OCLW was founded in 2011 by the then President of Wolfson College, the biographer Dame Hermione Lee. Based at Wolfson, it has built an international reputation as a unique hub of activities relating to all aspects of life-writing. It promotes a lively, cross-disciplinary dialogue on the full range of life-writing, including biography, memoir and social media forms, through a busy programme of events, including lunch talks, performances, panel discussions, seminars and full-day workshops.

Gifts to OCLW help it support and nurture talented young writers and scholars, producing creative and imaginative work of the highest calibre. To support OCLW, click here.

The Jon Stallworthy Poetry Prize

One special initiative is to honour the life of Jon Stallworthy by endowing the Jon Stallworthy Poetry Prize for Oxford graduate students. A much-loved tutor, scholar and poet, Jon Stallworthy was a Fellow of Wolfson between 1986 and his death in 2014 and twice Acting President of the College. Thanks to generous gifts from Old Possum's Practical Trust and the Derek Hill Foundation, the prize was first awarded in 2016.

We now want to endow the prize as a permanent tribute to Professor Stallworthy and hope that his many friends and admirers in the Wolfson community will give their support. To support the Jon Stallworthy Poetry Prize, click here.

Wolfson College Boat Club

The Boat Club is Wolfson’s largest sports club and has recently been amongst Oxford’s most successful. Gifts to the Boat Club allow it to provide equipment, coaching and training for Wolfson’s outstanding rowing crews. To support the Boat Club, click here.

Scholarships
